Job description

Audubon is currently seeking a Survey Technician Lead - Party Chief to join our team. This role will be working in various states including but not limited to: TX, OK, PA, MO, KS, LA, ND, SD & CO. The Survey Technician Lead - Party Chief reports to the Survey & Mapping Manager and Operations Manager. The role leads the work of a party engaged in surveying.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Areas of Responsibility will include:

  • Keeps Operations Manager and applicable Project Manager apprised of daily survey activities.
  • Works with the company's Registered Land Surveyor or Subcontractor Registered Land Surveyor as needed to provide necessary data and information on projects where the client requires certified plats or drawings.
  • Keeps in close contact with the applicable project manager to assure a full understanding of the scope of services of projects.
  • Downloads data collected daily and transmits the data files.
  • Is prepared daily to assist clients in the field including the appropriate attire for field services. This includes but is not limited to vehicle, steel‑toed boots, fire‑resistant clothing, hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, and earplugs.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead survey crew, operate GPS, conventional total station, data collectors, and other surveying equipment.
  • Has a full understanding of the scope of services of each job before mobilizing to the job site to ensure that all necessary supplies, equipment and electronic data/information are available.
  • Responsible for submitting timesheets and expense reports to the Business Manager weekly for all members of the survey crew, including photographs of receipts for reimbursement.
  • Ensures the appropriate job number is listed on timesheets and expense reports.
  • Contacts the Survey and Mapping Manager to troubleshoot any technical difficulties the survey crew encounters.
  • Notifies the Operations Manager immediately if any equipment sustains damage or is not working properly.
  • Serves as a mentor, training new Survey Technicians as needed.
  • Attends kick‑off meetings with the Survey Manager and clients as required.
  • Performs and leads survey crews for various surveying services, including but not limited to preliminary surveys, construction staking, as‑built surveys, depth‑of‑cover surveys, topographic surveys, re‑route surveys, crossing surveys, ILI tracking, AGM placement, anomaly staking, repair documentation and tank surveys/measurements.
  • Confirms with the Project Manager that all data has been received and meets the client’s needs and scope of services prior to demobilizing from any job site.
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Minimum of a High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Completion of land surveying and land law coursework desirable.
  • At least 2+ years of relevant experience performing preliminary surveys, construction staking, as‑built surveys, depth‑of‑cover surveys, topographic surveys, ILI tracking, AGM placement, anomaly staking, and repair documentation and tank surveys/measurements; 5+ years preferred.
  • Working knowledge of survey equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate GPS, conventional total station, data collectors, and other surveying equipment.
  • Operational knowledge of Trimble, Sokkia, RD Locators, and Pin Locators units.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Knowledge and experience with ESRI ArcMap 9.x, AutoCAD, Pathfinder, and Carlson desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
