Job summary

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) is seeking a Survey Technician/Instrument Operator to support field crews in data collection for boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys in the St. Louis area.

The role requires handling robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, laser scanners, and other survey equipment. The ideal candidate has at least one year of industry experience, a current driver's license, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid, current driver's license is required.
  • One year industry experience.
  • Knowledge of land surveying practices and basic survey operations.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel/out-of-town work as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Use land survey instruments to support field crew for boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys.
  • Assist in completing field surveys under supervision; communicate progress and issues.
  • Operate land survey equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems, terrestrial 3D laser scanners, levels.
  • Use survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform computations.
  • Read and interpret maps and plans.
  • Maintain neat field notes with accurate measurements under supervision.
  • Load/unload trucks with survey equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain and service survey equipment and vehicle.
  • Follow safety procedures and company policies.
  • Travel out of state to project locations with per diem.

Responsibilities
  • Use a variety of land survey instruments to support a field crew in their daily operations to gather data for various surveys including boundary, topographic, and construction layout
  • Assist in completion of field surveys under the supervision of a Crew Chief; communicate progress and address problems
  • Operate land survey equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems, terrestrial 3D laser scanners, automatic and digital levels
  • Utilize survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey computations
  • Read and interpret various types of maps and plans
  • Complete neat and orderly field notes with accurate measurements for land survey operations with supervision from Crew Chief
  • Load and unload trucks with land survey equipment and supplies
  • Clean and maintain land survey equipment, tools, and vehicle
  • Follow company safety procedures, policies, and practices
  • Ability to travel out of state to project locations (Full Per Diem included)
Qualifications

  • Minimum knowledge of land surveying practices and performance of basic types of surveys, mathematical computations, and field operations
  • Able to work outdoors year-round in all types of weather conditions and environments
