Job summary

SAM is seeking a field survey technician to support field crews in gathering data for boundary, topographic, and construction surveys across the United States. You will operate survey instruments, read maps, and perform basic computations under the Crew Chief’s supervision.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and at least one year of experience. Outdoor work year-round and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid, current driver’s license.
  • At least 1 year of industry experience.
  • Knowledge of land surveying practices and basic survey computations.
  • Able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Willing to travel/out-of-town as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support a field crew by using survey instruments to collect data for boundary, topo, and construction surveys.
  • Assist in field surveys under supervision and communicate progress.
  • Operate land survey equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios, and 3D laser scanners.
  • Use controllers/software to collect geospatial data and perform calculations.
  • Read and interpret maps and plans.
  • Maintain neat field notes with accurate measurements under supervision.
  • Load/unload equipment and supplies; keep gear in good condition.
  • Follow safety procedures and company policies.

Your Impact at SAM — Responsibilities
  • Use a variety of land survey instruments to support a field crew in their daily operations to gather data for various surveys including boundary, topographic, and construction layout
  • Assist in completion of field surveys under the supervision of a Crew Chief; communicate progress and address problems
  • Operate land survey equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems, terrestrial 3D laser scanners, automatic and digital levels
  • Utilize survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey computations
  • Read and interpret various types of maps and plans
  • Complete neat and orderly field notes with accurate measurements for land survey operations with supervision from Crew Chief
  • Load and unload trucks with land survey equipment and supplies
  • Clean and maintain land survey equipment, tools, and vehicle
  • Follow company safety procedures, policies, and practices
Qualifications

  • One year industry experience minimum
  • Minimum knowledge of land surveying practices and performance of basic types of surveys, mathematical computations, and field operations
  • Able to work outdoors year-round in all types of weather conditions and environments
  • Available to travel/stay out of town for work as needed

Salary: USD $22.00 per hour minimum to USD $34.00 per hour maximum.
