Job summary

SMEUSA is seeking a Survey Technician to work under a Licensed Surveyor, gaining experience across land development, energy, industrial, and infrastructure markets. The role emphasizes autonomy to produce high-quality drawings and reports aligned with company standards and client needs.

You will work with UAVs, GPS, robotic total stations, and laser scanning technologies, and you will prepare detailed field reports while collaborating closely with field and senior staff.

Qualifications

  • Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication to interact with clients and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and document field observations clearly.
  • Ability to work with field staff and adapt to changing conditions while maintaining safety.
  • Basic construction knowledge including interpretation of maps, landmarks and utility markings.

  • Assist Licensed Surveyor and team to produce detailed drawings and reports.
  • Operate UAV/drone, GPS, robotic total stations, and laser scanning tools for field data collection.
  • Prepare reports summarizing observations and analysis of field surveys.
  • Collaborate with field staff to resolve construction challenges and maintain safety.

Job description

A Survey Technician you will work under the direct supervision of a Licensed Surveyor and other industry experts. You will be given autonomy to produce detailed, high-quality drawings and reports in accordance with company standards and methodologies, technical guidelines and client needs. You will gain valuable experience working on projects within the land development, energy, industrial and infrastructure markets.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be exposed to several cutting-edge technologies, including UAV/drone, GPS, robotic total stations and laser scanning to produce field data which will be used to complete technical drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing your complex field observations, and sophisticated analysis of on-site surveys.
  • Work alongside field staff and senior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Use your problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex construction challenges.

Requirements:

  • Has competency using computer operating systems and MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and supervisors, conveying technical information clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, manage workloads, maintain accurate and detailed record-keeping skills, documenting field observations, safety concerns, and problem resolutions.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and team members, fostering positive working relationships, customer-centric approach to provide excellent service to clients, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • Must be able to understand and adapt to change and react productively to frequent interruptions and changing conditions.
  • Basic construction competencies including ability to determine location from surface features and landmarks by interpretation from surveys, road maps, aerial photos, topographic maps, and geologic maps; understanding construction stakes set by others, and color markings of utility companies.
  • Has a general aptitude for identifying and resolving complex technical problems in the field, utilizing critical thinking and logical reasoning.
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring safety and security in all aspects of work, strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines, fostering a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Ability to handle physical demands, such as lifting (up to 50lbs repetitively), walking on uneven ground frequently, and carrying equipment, working in various weather conditions, and traveling to different locations.
