Job summary

Woolpert, a global leader in architecture, engineering, and geospatial services, seeks a Survey Team Leader in Massachusetts. Lead the Survey and Geomatics team, directing land surveyors and geospatial professionals, overseeing data collection, boundary work, and QA/QC of surveying products.

You will mentor staff, develop scopes of work, and collaborate with clients across MA while leveraging Trimble, AutoCAD C3D, MicroStation, and BIM workflows. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 8 years of related work experience in the land surveying field.
  • Massachusetts Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) License preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel across Massachusetts and potentially nationally.
  • Strong technical proficiency with common suite tools and survey workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surveying and mapping solutions to support project requirements.
  • Coach, mentor, and delegate tasks to technical team members to ensure quality deliverables.
  • Perform analysis for complex boundary surveys and prepare plats and boundary descriptions.
  • Conduct advanced calculations from field survey data.

  • Interpret complex spatial data to create 2D/3D deliverables including BIM elements and asset inventories.

  • Develop scopes of work, schedules, and estimates for survey projects.
  • Ensure project QA/QC processes are in place.
  • Provide technical leadership during proposals and planning phases.
  • Manage survey staff resources, hiring, and supervision.

Position Overview:

Woolpert is hiring a Survey Team Leader to join our Survey and Geomatics team in Massachusetts. The Survey Team Leader will lead the technical and professional direction of a group of land surveyors and geospatial professionals in Massachusetts. The Land Surveying Team Leader will be responsible for overseeing the planning, data collection, development, and delivery of quality land surveying products, managing and directing field and office survey staff, and supporting the professional growth of the survey team members. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Expectations include boundary determination, pricing & scoping, quality assurance and quality control of surveying products and procedures, communication with internal and external clients and other survey discipline team members, and crew scheduling. The candidate should have foundational knowledge of topographic, control/geodetic, transportation, subsurface utility, boundary/ROW determination, scanning FeX, feature extraction, point

What You Will Do:

  • Prepare surveying and mapping solutions to support project/program requirements.
  • Coach, mentor, direct, and delegate tasks to technical team members to ensure quality project deliverables.
  • Perform analysis for complex boundary surveys and prepare associated plats and boundary descriptions.
  • Conduct advanced calculations involving field survey data.
  • Assist with the preparation of right-of-way plans and conduct quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on said plans.
  • Prepare or review survey reports and legal descriptions.
  • Experienced with registration workflows, noise reduction, meshing, and preparing data for CAD/BIM environments.
  • Capable of interpreting complex spatial data to create accurate 2D/3D deliverables, including floor plans, BIM elements, topographic features, and asset inventories.
  • Skilled in planning scan workflows, capturing comprehensive datasets, and ensuring proper registration, alignment, and quality control.
  • Develop scopes of work, schedules, and estimates for survey projects.
  • Ensure project quality control and quality assurance processes are in place.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership during the proposal and planning phases.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for effective planning and scheduling of workload and performance of team members.
  • Manage survey staff resource levels, including hiring and supervising all technical survey staff and field teams.
  • Facilitate the personal and professional growth of team members through coaching, training, and development activities.
  • Support sales efforts, including relationship building, opportunity identification, proposal preparation, project estimating, and participating in interviews by sharing technical knowledge.
  • Maintain and monitor fleet and equipment assets.
  • Representing the firm at various functions as needed.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 8 years of related work experience in the land surveying field.
  • Massachusetts Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) License preferred (or the ability to obtain licensure).
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to Woolpert or customer sites across Massachusetts, potentially nationally.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office products, Trimble software/hardware, AutoCAD C3D, and MicroStation Open Roads Designer, INRoads, and GeoPAC platforms.
  • Experience in coordinating, planning, and scheduling survey tasks and field crews.
  • Strong client interaction skills and the ability to set and uphold project standards.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and respond to industry changes and internal initiatives.
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
