TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking for a Survey Party Chief II based in Fort Worth, TX. All the training, tools, and uniforms will be provided, and we have lots of opportunities to grow within the agency. Provides technical expertise and advice on complex surveying projects and/or performs specialized surveying work under supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor or licensed Professional Engineer. Work usually requires contact with governmental and/or private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

A Day in the life of a Survey Party Chief II may include:

  • Coordinate for projects with the crew coordinator
  • Collection of field data
  • QA/QC data
  • Create final projects
  • Oversight of field projects and field employees
  • Coordinate for utility locations, establish and verify survey control
  • Research Right of Way maps, construction plans and records research
  • Additional job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 2 years surveying, drafting, cartography, mathematics, geography, GIS, construction, or engineering related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

  • Certification as Surveyor in Training (SIT) by the State of Texas plus one (1) year surveying experience may substitute for experience.
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Computer-aided drafting and design systems
  • GPS, geodetic and GNSS surveying
  • Applicable surveying procedures, standards and instruments
  • Higher mathematics
  • Monitoring the status and progress of projects
  • Interpreting applicable information
  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints and maps
  • This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Employee may be contacted during off-duty hours to see if he or she can report to work for emergency conditions. [May Call Status]
