Gregory Construction is seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field surveying and construction layout on large-scale heavy civil and mission-critical projects. You will translate plans and design data into accurate field layout that keeps crews productive and ensure survey control networks are established and maintained.

The role requires hands-on leadership, the ability to troubleshoot issues, and coordination with project teams to support daily construction activities.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of field surveying experience on heavy civil projects.
• Experience surveying heavy civil construction including mass grading, earthwork, utilities, structures, paving.
• Ability to read and interpret complex construction plans, alignments, elevations and design information.
• Strong knowledge of grading, earthwork, excavation and utilities; advanced working knowledge of TBC.

Gregory Construction is seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field surveying and construction layout on large-scale heavy civil and mission-critical projects.

We’re looking for more than a technically strong surveyor. We need someone who understands how heavy civil construction gets built—mass grading, excavation, underground utilities, concrete, structures, paving, and site development—and can translate plans and design data into accurate field layout that keeps our crews productive.

This is a hands‑on field leadership position for someone who can independently manage survey activities, troubleshoot issues, coordinate with project teams, and develop other survey personnel.

What You’ll Do

• Lead day‑to‑day field surveying and construction layout activities on active heavy civil projects.
• Perform accurate layout, staking, elevations, control, and as‑built surveys.
• Provide survey support for mass grading, excavation, wet and dry utilities, concrete, structures, paving, and site development.
• Operate Trimble S7 Total Stations, TSC7 Controllers, Trimble Access, and Topcon GPS systems.
• Establish, maintain, and verify project survey control networks.
• Interpret construction plans, alignments, elevations, coordinates, and design information.
• Use Trimble Business Center (TBC) to support construction layout and field operations.
• Identify discrepancies between plans and field conditions and work with project teams to resolve issues before they impact production.
• Coordinate closely with superintendents, project managers, engineers, and field crews to support daily construction activities.
• Troubleshoot survey equipment and field layout challenges.
• Lead, train, and develop Survey Techs and other survey team members.
• Maintain accurate survey records and as‑built information.
• Perform work safely around heavy equipment, excavation, underground operations, and active construction crews.
• Travel to Gregory Construction projects as required.

What We’re Looking For

The strongest candidates will have a heavy civil construction surveying background and understand the relationship between accurate survey work and successful field production.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of field surveying experience, with strong construction survey experience.
• Demonstrated experience surveying heavy civil construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of grading, earthwork, excavation, underground utilities, structures, concrete, and paving layout.
• Advanced working knowledge of Trimble Business Center (TBC).
• Experience operating modern total station and GPS survey equipment.
• Ability to independently establish and maintain survey control.
• Ability to read and interpret complex construction plans, alignments, elevations, and design information.
• Strong construction math, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to lead field survey operations and train less‑experienced team members.
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with field and project leadership.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites throughout Gregory Construction’s operating regions.

Heavy Civil Experience Matters

We’re especially interested in Party Chiefs who have worked in environments similar to Gregory Construction.

Your background should include hands‑on construction survey experience involving several of these scopes:

• Heavy civil construction
• Mass grading and earthwork
• Wet and dry underground utilities
• Storm, sanitary, and water systems
• Underground electrical and communications infrastructure
• Excavation and trenching
• Concrete and structural layout
• Roadway and paving operations
• Mission‑critical/data center sitework

Gregory's work includes civil, industrial, and mission‑critical construction, making relevant heavy civil field experience particularly important for this position.

Preferred Technical Experience

• Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
• OSHA 30 Certification
