Job summary

A surveying and consulting firm in Pittsburgh is seeking a Field Crew Leader to manage onsite surveying tasks. The role involves reviewing assignments, leading crew members, and ensuring efficiency in delivering quality work. Candidates should have experience with survey equipment, especially Trimble robotic total stations, and be willing to travel. This position demands strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review crew assignments and manage workflow with team.
• Lead crew members to accomplish daily objectives and solve onsite issues.
• Ensure quality and timely delivery of work products.
• Serve as the primary contact between crew and office.
• Lead crew to complete daily objectives efficiently and safely.
• Resolve issues that arise on the jobsite.
• Set up and operate instruments and perform back sighting.
• Measure heights, document times, and record data.
• Draw sketches of control points and survey areas.
• Prepare clear field notes for the work.
• Instruct others on using the total station.
• Identify boundary corners and evidence of occupation.
• Understand bearings and azimuths.
• Perform boundary, topographic, stakeouts and as-built surveys.
• Follow contract scope and client-approved changes.
• Deliver high-quality and timely work products.

Job description

• Review crew assignment with the Project Managers and Survey Coordinators.
• Understands the scope and budget for the work to be performed.
• Meet inspectors or client representative for site specific requirements.
• Is the point of contact between the crew members and the office.
• Leads the crew members to efficiently complete the work for the day and explains the objective for the day’s assignment to the crew members.
• Solve problems that may arise on the jobsite.
• Set up and operate instruments and back sight with heights.
• Set up base and rover accurately measure height and record time.
• Draw sketches of control points and survey areas.
• Prepare clear field notes for the work.
• Sets up and teaches others how to use the total station.
• Identify boundary corners and evidence of occupation.
• Understand bearings and azimuths.
• Perform boundary, topographic, stakeouts and as-built surveys.
• Uses the best choice of equipment and methodologies to exceed the expectations of the client.
• Follow scope of work as defined by contract or client approved changes.
• Efficiently lead the crew members to deliver quality and timely work product.

Requirements:

• Be located in the Pittsburgh region and surrounding states.
• Experience with leading a field crew for existing conditions surveys, construction stakeout and as-built surveys.
• Experience as a one man field crew running a Trimble robotic total station and gps is preferred.
• Must be willing and able to travel as necessary, per diems will be included.
