Job summary

Crafton Tull & Associates Inc. seeks a Student Intern to gain hands-on experience in land surveying within our employee-owned firm. You will work with the survey crew on-site, supporting field operations under supervision and helping with elevations and stake layouts.

The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and learning across survey tasks, with possible overnight travel based on project needs. Current college students pursuing surveying-related degrees are invited to apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; current college student pursuing a degree in survey, engineering, or landscape architecture.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Valid driver license with a clean driving record.
• Math: add/subtract, multiply/divide with tens and hundreds, apply to weight, volume and distance.

Responsibilities

• Works on survey crew performing duties as assigned by Survey Supervisor and Survey Party Chief.
• Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, mining, land, and other surveys.
• Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.
• Marks measuring points with keel, paint sticks, scratches, tacks, or stakes.
• Places stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.
• Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey.
• Maintains, cleans, and services survey equipment and vehicles.
• This position may require occasional overnight travel based on project needs and business demands.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
