Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams (KBJW) seeks a Survey Instrument Operator to join our Richmond, VA office. You will assist in collecting field survey data, operate and maintain survey equipment, and work with the Party Chief to meet schedules.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • 1+ years of experience in surveying.
  • Knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • General knowledge of surveying equipment and practices.
  • Understanding of slope reduction and differential leveling.
  • Desire to grow professionally.

  • Operate field equipment including level, GPS, and total station, data collectors.
  • Take field notes of readings and observations and draw sketches.
  • Maintain vehicle and field equipment.
  • Perform field and office calculations and know principles of staking and marking.
  • Perform other related field and office duties as assigned.
  • Operate, clean, adjust, and maintain survey instruments and equipment; drive on paved and unpaved surfaces.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

The Survey Instrument Operator's primary function is to assist in the collection of field survey data, operation and maintenance of the survey equipment. You will work with the Party Chief to execute the survey work and your crew is responsible for meeting schedules as assigned by your supervisor.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Operate field equipment including, level, GPS, and total station, data collectors.
  • Take field notes of readings and observations and draw sketches.
  • Maintain vehicle and field equipment.
  • Perform field and office calculations and know principles of staking and marking.
  • Perform other related field and office duties as assigned.
  • Operate, clean, adjust, and maintain survey instruments and equipment; make field notes, sketches, and calculations manually and/or using electronic equipment; drive on paved and unpaved surfaces.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • 1+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of mathematics through algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • General knowledge of surveying equipment, practices, and principles.
  • Basic knowledge of survey theory, including slope reduction and differential leveling.
  • Great attitude and a desire to grow professionally.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work may routinely (and sometimes extensively) require the employee to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry field equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to reach with hands and/or arms, and frequently required to hold, handle, or feel a variety of items.
  • The employee must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and difficult terrain.
  • The employee must be able to see and focus, including with close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as depth vision.
  • The employee must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and difficult terrain.
  • The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day.
  • The employee may be exposed to loud or noisy environments.
