Job summary

Ardurra’s Knoxville, TN office is seeking a Survey Instrument Operator I to learn operating total stations, GPS base stations, data collectors, drones, and automatic levels. You’ll join the field survey crew to assist on Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Construction Layout, Utility surveys, and more.

The role emphasizes keeping gear clean and charged, collaborating with Engineers and CAD Technicians, and supporting the Survey Crew Chief.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Willingness to travel up to four nights per week.
  • Some survey experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong math basics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

Job description

Ardurra is growing and looking for a Survey Instrument Operator I for our Knoxville, TN office.

Primary Function:

The Survey Instrument Operator I will be trained in operating various types of Survey equipment, including electronic total stations, GPS base stations and receivers, data collectors (survey controllers), drones, and automatic levels. Instrument Operators are responsible for keeping the survey truck and equipment clean, organized, and batteries charged and ready for each daily work assignment. As part of the field survey crew/team, Instrument Operators work under supervision to assist the Survey Crew Chief on a day-to-day basis to do Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Construction Layout, Utility Surveys, and other types of surveying as assigned.

Primary Duties:
  • Assist in the completion of field surveys of various commercial, utility, and residential projects.
  • Provide support for Survey Party Chief and other crew members.
  • Assist in other general technical support as needed.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Surveyors and CAD Technicians as assigned or needed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School or equivalent required
  • Ability to travel up to four nights per week required
  • Some previous survey experience preferred but not required
  • Basic Math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional work ethic
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work together with a team or individually. Must be team-oriented and self-motivated
