Job summary

BL Companies is seeking an Instrument Operator to support survey field operations for land development, transportation, energy, and infrastructure projects. Working under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief, this role assists with data collection, construction layout, boundary, topographic, and as-built surveys while ensuring accuracy, safety, and quality.

The position requires a high school diploma, 0-3 years’ field experience, and familiarity with GPS/GNSS and robotic total stations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 0-3 years of survey field experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of surveying principles and field procedures.
• Experience with GPS and robotic total station equipment preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate survey equipment, including GPS/GNSS receivers, total stations, levels, and data collectors.
• Assist with boundary, topographic, utility, ALTA, and construction stakeout surveys.
• Set up and maintain survey equipment and field control points.
• Collect, record, and verify field data and measurements.
• Assist with construction layout and staking activities.
• Maintain field notes and support data transfer for office processing.
• Follow company safety standards and project-specific requirements.
• Travel to project sites as needed.
