Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. in Dallas, TX, seeks a qualified Survey Instrument Operator to assist a survey crew chief in the field, collecting data for design, boundary surveying, and topography for construction projects. Occasional extended travel to project sites is required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work under guidance of a survey crew chief and take to training and mentorship.
  • Must be able to operate a total station and GPS in static and RTK modes for control networks, boundaries, ALTA’s, topography and construction staking.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle with a valid license and clean driving history.
  • OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid, or the ability and willingness to acquire it.
  • Must be able to perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence.
  • Basic office suite computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Discharge duties as requested by Crew Chief.
  • Perform field work for land surveying scopes of work including construction staking, boundary location, ALTA, and topography for various project types.
  • Organize survey truck, survey equipment and survey supplies as necessary.
  • Operate GPS, total stations, scanners, and data collectors.
  • Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with clients and coworkers.
  • Adhere to the company’s Safety, Quality Management and Equipment Maintenance policies.
  • Ensures division, regional, and company values, policies and practices are consistently followed within the survey service.
  • Lead by example – display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism.

Description

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified full-time Survey Instrument Operator. This position will work with a survey crew chief in the field collecting data to support design activities, boundary surveying, providing sketches, and layout to support construction activities. This position requires extensive travel to project sites.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Discharge duties as requested by Crew Chief
  • Perform field work for land surveying scopes of work including construction staking, boundary location, ALTA, and topography for various project types
  • Organize survey truck, survey equipment and survey supplies as necessary
  • Operate GPS, total stations, scanners, and data collectors
  • Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders
  • Maintain productive working relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Adhere to the company’s Safety, Quality Management and Equipment Maintenance policies

Physical Requirements
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  • Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, subject to weather, insects, and changing environments
Required Experience
  • Ability to work under guidance of a survey crew chief and take to training and mentorship
  • Must be able to operate a total station and GPS in both static and RTK modes surveying activities pertaining to control networks, boundaries, ALTA’s, topography, and construction staking.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle with a valid license and clean driving history
  • OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid, or the ability and willingness to acquire it
  • Must be able perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence
  • Basic “office suite” computer skills
Preferred Experience
  • An Associate’s Degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology, or related area of study
  • Land Development, both Commercial and Residential, and Public Infrastructure Projects
  • Coordinating activities with office personnel, including surveying technicians and engineering staff
  • Experience searching for/recovering boundary monuments in the Public Land Survey System and metes and bounds states
  • FAA Part 107 UAS License
  • Ability to travel and remain on a project site for extended periods (must have the capability of self-funding the total amount of expenses until reimbursement can be disbursed)
