Job summary

Kiewit is seeking an Entry-level Survey Assistant to support the Survey Crew Chief and Journeyman Surveyors on construction sites in Mobile, AL. You will perform manual labor, help establish elevations, and learn to operate survey tools under supervision.

Key duties include handling stakes and markers, measuring distances with survey chains, and assisting with electronic measuring equipment. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with safety and teamwork emphasized.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor related to surveying needs (cutting brush, carrying stakes, markers).

• Install or mark elevations as instructed by the Surveying Journeyman.
• Measure distances with survey chains, using a plumb bob, and maintain chains for accuracy.
• Learn to set up items with electronic measuring and sighting as needed.
• Operate and maintain survey tools and instruments.

Primary Responsibilities And Duties

• Perform manual labor related to surveying needs, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, and/or pins and right of way markers delineate features of all phase’s construction project.
• Assist and learn the task of establishing elevations and or grades as required
• Install or mark neatly elevations as instructed by the Surveying Journeyman
• Assist and learn to measure distances manually with survey chains using a plumb bob and maintain survey chains to insure accuracy and consistency
• Learn to set up items associated with electronic measuring and sighting and perform these actions as needed
• Operates and maintains survey tools and instruments

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
• Field experience in chosen craft discipline
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.

Requirements

• The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site, so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions
• Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
• May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
• Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
• May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction/industrial site
• Must have required tools
• May require U.S. driver license
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required
• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing
