Job summary

Cinterra is seeking a Survey Helper to support the Party Chief by performing precise measurements and layout for unit installation. You will use surveying instruments to determine elevations, locations, and dimensions of land features, while ensuring accuracy and quality in accordance with plans and specs.

Ideal candidates have industrial construction layout experience, solid math skills, and the ability to read plans.

Qualifications

Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provide assistance to the Party Chief and performs duties as directed, by making exact measurements and supporting all disciplines with a quality layout for unit installation. Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, construction, and other purposes.

Principal Duties & Accountabilities

• Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes formapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys. Place stakes at designated points and drives them into groundat specified elevation.
• Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey.
• Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.
• Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches or stakes.
• Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs.
• Help calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or currentinstallations.
• Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites,transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).
• Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or landfeatures.
• Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.
• Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested. Engage with your work team to ensure weachieve zero injuries. Understand that no job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will becompromised. Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional. If needed,use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved.
• Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
• Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions; Identify safety hazards you or other employees maybe subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell ofsmoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).
• Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag out procedures. Attend site specific training and assure you follow allprocedures as out lined in training.
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers andfractions rapidly and accurately.
• Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations giving full attention to what they aresaying and take the time to understand the points being made, asking questions and providing feedback whenappropriate.
• Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
• Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities with co-workers in your craft whenprovided.
• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
• Learn to read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• With regard to that portion of the work assigned, assist in planning, installing and/or repair systems in accordance

with those plans and specifications. Assist journeymen in laying out work and learn to perform layout independently.

• Learn to observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments,relocation, or replacement. Notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority asneeded.
• Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or thatmay be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision.
• If certified to operate equipment ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in goodworking order, and Daily Equipment Inspections are completed for equipment being utilized.
• Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
• Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities.
• Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
• Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working in the industrial construction field with layout or survey responsibilities or in any construction craft as a helper, and a basic knowledge of field surveys or layout work. Must have a developing knowledge of using mathematics to solve problems by adding and subtracting, multiplication and dividing and performing these operations using units of measurement for distance and have a general understanding of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry, and be able to verify mathematical calculations for gathering physical survey data, document technical design details, analyze physical, survey, or geographic data, survey land to measure or determine features, determine operational criteria or specifications, calibrate scientific or technical equipment, calculate geographic positions from survey data. Ability to understand and follow directions. IMust be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

WORK CONDITIONS
