Job summary

T2 Utility Engineers, Inc. is hiring a Survey Field Technician I in Minneapolis, MN. This full-time role offers on-the-job training and the opportunity to gain surveying and mapping experience with no prior experience or advanced degree required.

You will work with GPS, total stations, LiDAR and other survey tools, with travel up to 50% and a focus on field data collection, safety, and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, by vehicle or air travel.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only).
  • Ability to stand/walk on varied terrain for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate survey equipment.
  • Good oral communication skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload survey equipment and supplies daily.
  • Maintain and operate GPS units, total stations, levels, and related gear.
  • Learn operation of survey equipment and data collection devices.
  • Set up survey tripods for backsite and foresight operations.
  • Assist with daily vehicle pre-checks and truck sheets.
  • Assist with monthly survey equipment inventory.
  • Support Subsurface Utility Engineering services as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Since 1993, T2 Utility Engineers has provided professional surveying and mapping for acquisition and mapping of 3-dimensional spatial data in support of plans and preparation for construction of roadways, subsurface infrastructure, commercial and private land developments. Using advanced technologies including GPS, laser and LiDAR scanning, MCGPR, UAS (drones), our team of field technicians, surveyors, and engineers capture quality data and provide professional insight to help our clients visualize, plan and design their projects. Our mission is to provide project stakeholders with quality information, professional insight and deliverables that streamline construction, improve project safety and set the standard for the engineering industry.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Loading and unloading survey equipment andsupplieseach day
  • Clean and maintain survey equipment such as: GPS, Total Stations / Robotic Total Stations, levels,etc.as directed by the instrument operator
  • Learn the operation of survey equipment; total stations, data collection devices, GPS equipment and digital/automatic levels
  • Setting up survey tri-pods to provide backsite and foresight operations
  • Cutting line
  • Perform safety set-up and flagging operations under the direction of Survey Crew Chief
  • Assist with daily vehicle pre-checks, cleaning, and completing truck sheets
  • Assist with monthly survey equipment inventory
  • Support Subsurface Utility Engineering services as required
  • Other duties as required
Tech I Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to use standard survey equipment as instructed; training will be provided
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, by company vehicle or commercial airline, up to 2 week continuous stay
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only)
  • Ability to stand and walk on smooth and uneven terrain for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical activities to include bending, squatting, etc. related to carrying and operating survey equipment and other tools
  • Must have good oral communication skills and attention to detail
