Job summary

Wightman is seeking a Survey Field Service Technician, Energy, to collect field data using standard surveying equipment and assist surveyors. You will measure and record readings, lay out markings, and help generate drawings of job locations.

The role requires the ability to work in varied weather conditions and to travel regionally up to 75%. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma (associates preferred) and some related surveying experience, with strong communication skills and proficiency

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates degree or higher preferred.
• Certified Survey Technician certification preferred.
• 2+ years related surveying experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment to collect field data.
• Measure, record, and calculate data from instrument readings.
• Locate and recover markings, stakes, and other markers at work sites.
• Assist in creating drawings and computer images of job locations.
• Maintain equipment and vehicles used in surveys.
• Support surveys of natural features and structures, on land, water, or underground.
• Gather information from maps, photos, and records to plan new surveys.
• Perform light manual labor and carry equipment as needed (5–50 lbs).

Survey Field Service Technician, Energy

The survey field service technician collects field data utilizing common surveying equipment.

Essential Functions:

• Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment and instruments to collect field data, reporting data back to surveyors and other


• Wightman professionals


• Measure, record, and calculate data based on instrument readings


• Layout, locate and recover markings, stakes, and other such signifiers at work locations


• Help create drawings and computer images of job locations


• Maintain equipment and vehicles


• Assist in conducting surveys to determine location of natural features and man-made structures on the surface, underground or underwater


• Collect information needed to carry out new surveys using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records and other relevant information


• Perform manual labor such as bending, digging with a hand shovel, cutting brush for lines, carrying equipment, stakes, rebar and other items that may be heavy (5-50 lbs)

Required Traits & Characteristics:

• Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work within established budgets and deadlines


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Computer knowledge and Microsoft Office applications
  
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and various types of physical environments

Organizational Relationships:

• Reports directly to Survey Project Manager- Energy

Required Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education/Experience:

• Associates degree or higher

Travel:

• Position based in Benton Harbor, MI


• Regional Travel 75% including out of state
