About The Opportunity

A well-established land surveying firm in the Long Island area is seeking an experienced Field Party Chief to lead surveying field crews and perform accurate field data collection for a variety of land surveying projects.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced survey professional who can independently manage field operations, operate modern surveying equipment, and ensure accurate and complete field data for the office and project team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily activities of a land surveying field crew.
• Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction and related land surveys.
• Set up and operate total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors and other surveying instruments.
• Collect accurate field measurements, elevations, points and other survey data.
• Perform construction layout and staking as required.
• Establish and verify survey control points.
• Locate and document property corners, utilities, structures and other site features.
• Review field data for accuracy and completeness before submitting it to the office.
• Read and interpret survey plans, deeds, maps and other project documents.
• Maintain surveying equipment and ensure it is properly cared for.
• Coordinate with surveyors, CAD staff, clients, contractors and other project personnel as needed.
• Follow applicable safety procedures and maintain a professional presence on job sites.
• Provide direction and guidance to junior field personnel when needed.
• Maintain accurate field notes and daily records.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional land surveying experience preferred.
• Previous experience as a Party Chief, Crew Chief, Instrument Operator or Senior Survey Technician.
• Strong understanding of boundary, topographic and construction surveying.
• Experience operating total stations and GPS/GNSS surveying equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret survey plans, maps, deeds and construction documents.
• Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead a field crew.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job-site conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Trimble, Leica, Topcon or similar surveying equipment.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil 3D or other survey drafting software.
• Experience with construction layout and staking.
• Knowledge of New York land surveying practices and standards.
• NYS Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) or other relevant certification is a plus.
