Job summary

Alabama Power is seeking a Land Survey CAD Drafter to support drafting boundary and topographic surveys, as-built surveys, encroachment surveys, land tie surveys, and easements. The role also involves preparing legal land descriptions for acquisitions and assisting field crews with records research and data transmission.

You will upload drawings to the Vault system and coordinate with multiple departments and local agencies to obtain right-of-way information, ensuring accurate and timely project

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• A degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar suitable technical degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year Land Survey related CAD drafting experience is required.
• Extensive experience researching public documentation and records to produce signed Survey Plats.

Responsibilities

• Draft survey drawings and maps: boundary, topographic, as-built, encroachment, land tie surveys, easements, fiber crossings.
• Prepare land descriptions for land acquisition efforts.
• Research existing survey and real estate records; contact agencies for right-of-way information; transmit completed projects.

Education And Experience

• High School diploma is required.
• Valid Alabama divers license.
• A degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar suitable technical degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year Land Survey related CAD drafting experience is required.
• Extensive experience, working knowledge and the ability to research public documentation and records to produce signed Survey Plats.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
• Ability to research and understand land rights and legal documents (i.e. survey plats and maps, deeds, legal descriptions and other conveyances involving land rights)
• Possess and demonstrate problem solving (trouble shooting) skills
• Knowledge of surveying procedures for a variety of survey types
• Knowledgeable of Alabama’s “Standards of Practice” for surveying
• Knowledgeable of Alabama’s Public Land Survey System (U.S. System of Rectangular Surveys).
• Necessary skills to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances while working on multiple tasks/projects and ability to be productive, decisive and efficient in periods of short time constraints and resource limitations
• Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills
• Strong teamwork skills
• Strong customer service focus – sense of urgency
