You will oversee day-to-day field activities supporting transportation projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong team coordination. This leadership role requires guiding crews, applying field procedures, reviewing plans, performing stakeouts, and delivering high-quality survey data in all weather, with a focus on safety and professional representation of

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of related surveying experience.
• Strong knowledge of surveying practices, field procedures, and industry standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD and MicroStation knowledge preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel short-term.

Responsibilities

• Direct and lead field crew members through daily survey assignments with safety and quality in mind.
• Perform record research, construction stakeout, boundary, topographic, and utility surveys using total stations, data collectors, and GPS.
• Review legal documents, plans, and project materials to plan and execute surveying tasks.
• Create and verify field sketches and computations related to traversing and map interpretation.

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey Geospatial Team in Norwell, MA; Boston, MA; or Hartford, CT. In this role, you will oversee day‑to‑day field activities that support critical transportation projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong team coordination. What You'll Do

• Direct and lead field crew members through daily survey assignments, ensuring safe, efficient, and well‑coordinated field operations in alignment with safety protocols and quality assurance standards
• Perform record research, construction stakeout, boundary, topographic, transportation, and utility surveys utilizing total stations, data collectors, and GPS
• Review legal documents, plans, and project materials to accurately plan and execute surveying projects and task goal establishment
• Create and verify field sketches and field computations related to traversing, map interpretation, and layout

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of related experience required
• Strong knowledge of surveying practices, field procedures, and industry standards
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred; knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and team - coordination skills with the ability to represent the firm professionally with clients and the broader public
• Ability to lift and carry equipment over uneven terrain and work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license required with the ability to travel short‑term
• NSPS - CST Level II certification preferred; LSIT preferred

Salary Range

$32.00 - $40.00

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
