Your Role:

As a Survey Crew Chief, you will have a crucial role in leading field staff and collecting geospatial data using a variety of equipment. Our team utilizes modern Leica and Riegl products in the field and office. Starting out, you will work closely with other field/office staff to learn our project workflows until proficient. The ideal candidate would possess a strong work ethic, ability to work honestly/independently, lead, teach, and exhibit a good professional attitude.

  • Conduct field surveys using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, digital/optical levels, and terrestrial LIDAR scanners.
  • Understanding the sources of error in measurements and identifying the best equipment to deploy in different job scenarios.
  • Planning out and establishing effective survey control networks by traversing, GNSS baselines, and leveling.
  • Collaborate with surveyors, contactors, and project managers to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments to ensure accuracy.
  • Willingness and ability to lead other field staff.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, exercise independent judgment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working in the field.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet changing conditions & priorities.
  • Ability to perform mild-moderate physical labor and work outdoors in various conditions.
  • Travel: most jobs are within driving distance, located in SE Michigan and northern Ohio. Occasional stays out of town.
  • Safe operation of a company vehicle.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associates or Bachelors in Surveying/Engineering/Geomatics is preferred.
  • 3-5 years field experience in land surveying or construction/inspection.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
