Job summary

Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough, ME is seeking a Veterinary Surgical Technician to join our multi-specialty surgical suite. You will assist veterinarians in orthopedic, soft tissue, and emergency surgeries, preparing patients and monitoring anesthesia to keep pets safe.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a veterinary or animal handling role.
• Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
• Able to multi-task and lift 50 pounds.
• Credentialed candidates (LVT, CVT, or RVT) are strongly desired.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in advanced surgical procedures including orthopedic, soft tissue, and emergency surgeries.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including anesthesia induction, catheter placement, and pre-operative assessments.
• Monitor anesthesia throughout procedures, ensuring patient safety and appropriate pain management.
• Maintain sterile technique and support surgical suite preparation and turnover.
• Operate and maintain surgical and monitoring equipment.
• Perform post-operative care, including recovery monitoring and patient support.
• Accurately document anesthetic events, treatments, and surgical records.
• Collaborate with the team to ensure efficient surgical flow and exceptional patient care.
