  • Coordinate with lead instructor parameters of instruction and assistance.
  • Comply with instructional accommodations when needed.
  • Maintain activity log of student participation.
  • Demonstrated flexibility with students from various backgrounds and learning styles; use various teaching strategies.
  • Understand FERPA and confidentiality regarding student progress and information.

Job description

Surgical Technology Tutoring Assistant

Hourly Rate: $25.00

This position is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hours per week appointment based in Champaign, Illinois.

The Surgical Technology Tutoring Assistantassists program students with first year course material and the second year courses of SUR 210 and SUR 254 by providing additional help with course material and preparation for course exams.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide group and one on one study groups.
  • Understand didactic class course delivery.
  • Coordinate with lead instructor for instructional topics.
  • Coordinate with lead instructor for available times and locations.
  • Coordinate with lead instructor retrieving study materials on Cobra or in print form.
  • Coordinate with lead instructor parameters of instruction and assistance.
  • Comply with instructional accommodations when needed.
  • Maintain activity log of student participation.
  • Demonstrated flexibility with students from various backgrounds and learning styles; demonstrated experience with a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Understands FERPA and confidentiality regarding student progress and information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Current NBSTSA certification.
  • Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
