Job description

Starting pay - $26.40/hour*+ depending on years of experience
*must meet minimum requirements

Primary Responsibilities

1. Gather supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon preference card.
2. Maintain the sterile field and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
3. Ensure adherence to aseptic technique by all team members.
4. Be self-efficient in general surgical procedures, select specialty cases, and precept new hires.

Additional Duties

• Differentiates between sterile and unsterile items processed by various sterilization methods.
• Prepare surgical cases by gathering instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for general to moderately complex procedures.
• Provide safe patient care.
• Understand principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience.
• Have knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy.
• Follow environmental safety practices for patient, self, and team.
• Act as a preceptor for new staff in the scrub role.
• Assume beginning leadership roles under mentorship.
• Possess at least one year of experience as a surgical technologist.

Position Compensation Range

$20.68 - $32.05 Hourly

Minimum Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in or graduated from an accredited surgical technologist training program (CAHEEP/AHEBS or NCCT).
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure: BLS required. Certified as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT at start date. Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine at hire.

Physical Demands

Standing for prolonged periods, repetitive motions, lifting heavy instrument sets (>50-100 lbs), and exposure to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases. Proficient in communication, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to lift/push/pull.
