Job summary

Adventist Health Specialty Bakersfield seeks a Surgical Technologist to assist surgeons during invasive procedures, handling instruments, supplies, and maintaining a sterile field throughout the operation.

Qualified candidates will have Surgical Technology credentials and CST/TS-C certification; BLS/CPR is required by policy. Prior acute care experience is preferred and will be an asset in this fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree or Certificate in Surgical Technology is required.
• CST certification or Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) is required.
• BLS/CPR certification is required or preferred per policy.

Responsibilities

• Verifies surgery to be performed with consent forms and brings patient to the assigned operating room.
• Passes instruments to the surgeon during the procedure and anticipates surgeon's needs.
• Prepares sterile dressings and secures dressings after incision closure.
• Sets up the sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and assists in room turnover.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Facilitates physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly monitoring the maintenance of the sterile field.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

• Associate Degree or Certificate of Program Completion in Surgical Technology: Required
• Relevant acute care experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

• National Board of Surgical Technologists or Association of Surgical Technologists certified: Preferred
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred

Facility Specific License/Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
• Certified Surgery Technician (CST) certification or Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) certification: Required

Essential Functions:

• Verifies surgery to be performed with consent forms and brings patient to assigned operating room. Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure. Anticipates surgeon's needs of additional supplies. Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed. Prepares sterile dressings. Secures dressings after incision closure.
• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure. Obtains appropriate sterile and unsterile items needed for procedure. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure. Helps drape sterile field.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of team with cleaning of room for turnover. Assists in prepping room for the next patient.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
