Job summary

THOM Thomas Hospitals in Charleston, WV seeks a Surgical Technologist-STF for the Main OR. Provides intraoperative care as the scrub person, supporting the surgical team and maintaining sterile technique. Requirements include LPN licensure with scrub experience or Surgical Tech program completion with certification, and BLS within 30 days of hire.

The role demands ability to stand, lift up to 40 pounds, and push/pull carts. 40-hour weekly schedule; non-exempt position in the United States.

Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse and two years of scrub experience, OR
• Completion of a Surgical Technology Program and surgical technologist certification,
• certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes aseptic technique in the OR and works as the scrub person.
• Assists circulating RN to maintain a sterile field and monitors setup.
• Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts per guidelines.
• Passes sterile instruments and positions equipment as directed.
• Supports patient positioning and transport under surgeon direction.
• Prepares supplies and maintains sterile and non-sterile equipment.

Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.4. Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.5. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.6. Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients to include assisting the surgical team by holding retractors and position of operative limb under direction of surgeon.7. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.9. Monitors inventory; orders; and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment.10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines.11. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.12. Performs equipment checks as assigned.13. Assists with the proper recording of patient charges.14. Call with a response time of 30 minutes.15. Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one technologistsFor facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:1.
