About the Role:

Job Summary

Performs a wide variety of support services for the department. Provides clerical support by maintaining patient records, unit supplies, equipment, and serving as a facilitator for communications for the assigned area. Performs patient care to adults and normal newborns within the scope of defined practice. Functions as a scrub nurse in the Labor & Delivery operating rooms, and on the unit as a combination of a nursing assistant and unit secretary. This position is under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. This position will care for patients in the infant, adolescent, and adult age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population-specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Scrub role in OR: Set up cases, scrub according to protocols, assist with instrument counts, clean and reset rooms, assist circulating nurse, maintain sterile environment, monitor equipment, and ensure safety protocols.
  • Patient care support: Greet patients, assist with preparation, collect data, assist with delivery setup, infant care, and room cleanup.
  • Department support: Files records, verifies charges, maintains supplies, and participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Other duties: Assist with administrative tasks, participate in training, and serve as a role model.
Area/Unit Specific Responsibilities
  • Support administrative functions, verify patient visits, and maintain charts.
  • Assist with supply and equipment management, evaluate new products, and check medications.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 100 lbs frequently.
  • Carry up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Visual acuity required constantly.
  • Occasional kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work often involves reading, writing, reasoning, talking, and keyboarding.
