- Provides a clean, safe, and efficient area conducive to optimal patient care. Utilizes aseptic surgical techniques in preparing materials, supplies, and equipment for procedures, including gowning, gloving, draping, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Performs various surgical procedures and maintains knowledge of a range of procedures.
- Ensures environmental disinfection, safety, and efficiency of the operating room, including setting up and returning equipment used during procedures.
- Functions as a Second Assistant as needed.
- Notifies staff of equipment and supply issues.
- Transports patients, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintains specialty carts, checking equipment condition and sterility, and arranging repairs as needed.
- Performs patient positioning and transportation duties, utilizing proper techniques.
- Demonstrates knowledge to provide age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles, and interpreting patient data to meet individual needs.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, to be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by department leadership.
Education Required- Completion of an accredited program in Surgical Technology.
Experience RequiredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to maintain hospital-based certifications through annual education.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions- Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
- Lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull with 30 lbs of force, and perform other physical tasks with proper technique.
- Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids.
- Must have functional sight and hearing; wear protective gear as required.
- Able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and operate equipment during shifts.
