• Provides a clean, safe, and efficient area conducive to optimal patient care. Utilizes aseptic surgical techniques in preparing materials, supplies, and equipment for procedures, including gowning, gloving, draping, and maintaining a sterile field.
• Performs various surgical procedures and maintains knowledge of a range of procedures.
• Ensures environmental disinfection, safety, and efficiency of the operating room, including setting up and returning equipment used during procedures.
• Functions as a Second Assistant as needed.
• Notifies staff of equipment and supply issues.
• Transports patients, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintains specialty carts, checking equipment condition and sterility, and arranging repairs as needed.
• Performs patient positioning and transportation duties, utilizing proper techniques.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles, and interpreting patient data to meet individual needs.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, to be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by department leadership.

Education Required

• Completion of an accredited program in Surgical Technology.

Experience Required

• No experience necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to maintain hospital-based certifications through annual education.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
• Lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull with 30 lbs of force, and perform other physical tasks with proper technique.
• Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids.
• Must have functional sight and hearing; wear protective gear as required.
• Able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and operate equipment during shifts.
