Job Summary

The Surgical Technician I is an individual who is certified or eligible for certification within one year of employment, trained to perform surgical technology services that contribute to safe, quality, and fiscally responsible patient care. This role is suitable for a novice practicing with guidance and requiring assistance, progressing from orientation to advanced beginner level.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the circulating nurse to prepare the operating room, gather supplies, and ensure equipment functionality.
  • Respond to intraoperative needs by monitoring the sterile field and providing instruments and supplies.
  • Perform tasks at the sterile field, including passing supplies, handling specimens, and assisting with sutures and irrigation.
  • Recognize and report patient safety issues, maintain confidentiality, and uphold patient rights.
  • Facilitate efficient turnover by prioritizing activities and reporting issues with kits or equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Certificate 1 Cert Surg Tech (CST) and Basic Life Support
  • 0-1 years of related experience
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent military/public health training
  • Maintains a nationally recognized surgical technologist certification
  • Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements

Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, standing/moving during most of the shift.
