The Surgical Technologist (ST) is an integral member of the surgical team. As part of this multidisciplinary team, the ST collaborates with team members to facilitate comprehensive care in the peri-operative environment. This position works under the supervision of the registered nurse/circulating nurse. The ST functions in the scrub role, assisting the operating surgeon and team, preparing for procedures, and cleaning up afterward. The ST demonstrates professionalism and maintains good relationships with peers and physicians to ensure high-quality patient care.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED, communication skills training (including English, written, and verbal skills). Graduate of a surgical technologist program. (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
Graduates of surgical technologist or OR training programs; experience preferred. (Required)
Sterile Processing experience is a plus. (Preferred)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of aseptic technique, human relations, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates surgical conscience, collaborates with RNs and physicians, and assists in setting up the operative field. Ability to identify surgical instruments, verify sterilization, and understand surgical materials. Maintains a safe, organized environment, performs basic calculations, and uses supplies cost-effectively. Supports updating preference cards and acts as a resource to peers.
Required Licenses and Certifications
CPR certification is required; Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
