Job Summary and Qualifications

Our Labor & Delivery Surgical Technician will work under the supervision of the leadership team to assist with proper care, handling, assembly, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments.

  • Scrub cases related to the unit scope of care.
  • Wear appropriate attire per hospital and OSHA policies.
  • Maintain and create a sterile field; scrub routine cases independently.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical anatomy, instrumentation, and procedures.
  • Avoid diverting attention from the operative field.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and assist with closing counts.
  • Label medications on the sterile field and understand instrumentation sequences.
  • Scrub independently on small to moderate and specialty cases, anticipating surgeon needs.
  • Assist the RN with circulating duties and understand circulating responsibilities.
  • Place cautery dispersive electrodes correctly, checking for bony prominences and metal implants.
  • Apply standard and transmission-based precautions to ensure safety.
  • Assist in maintaining smooth flow in the OR, obtaining medications, and supporting staff, anesthesia, surgeon, and patient.
  • Check instrumentation accuracy and availability for cases.
Qualifications Needed:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification, or BCLS instructor certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • State licensure through VA.
