Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To assist the surgical team under the supervision of a professional nurse, providing skilled nursing care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients undergoing surgical procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs assigned procedures to promote patient comfort and well-being.
  • Assists in updating physician reference sheets.
  • Participates in nursing care plans and functions effectively as part of the team.
  • Demonstrates ability to scrub on all procedures, from minor to major surgeries.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians using both written and verbal methods.
  • Responds appropriately to crisis situations as per unit standards, initiates interventions within scope, and notifies the RN as needed.
  • Maintains required credentials such as BCLS and completes mandatory in-service training.
  • Demonstrates the skills and knowledge necessary to provide appropriate care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Schedule: 48 hours bi-weekly

Shift: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., including weekends and rotating nights on any weekday shift

Weekend/Holiday Commitment: Every 3rd weekend and 2 holidays per year.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician program; or a minimum of 2 years ORT experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
