Job summary

Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the Lahey Peabody site. The ST provides intra-operative care, assists the surgical team, and supports patient progression goals in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited program, certification within one month of hire, and more than one year of experience. On-call nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Qualifications

• Certification preferred; new hires must obtain certification within one month of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Circulating Nurse in setting up for procedures with instruments and supplies.
• Pass instruments to the surgeon and maintain the sterile field.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and on-call assignments.

Job Description

The Surgical Technologist (ST) is a member of the surgical team responsible for providing intra-operative care to the surgical patient. This job requires working in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on patient progression goals, quality initiatives and achieving the highest level of patient satisfaction. They will precept other staff and students. The ST functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Circulating Nurse.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• 1. Assists and collaborates with the Circulating nurse to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment and supplies.
• 2. Primary role is as a ST, passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon at the sterile field.
• 3. Anticipates needs of surgical team during the procedure and provides them with proper instruments, equipment, supplies to meet these needs.
• 4. Assists in the care, cleaning and maintenance of all general and specialty instruments, equipment and supplies according to established guidelines, policies and procedures.
• 5. Collaborates with the Circulating nurse to insure the accuracy of all sponge, sharps and instrument counts according to established policies and procedures.
• 6. Responsible for application of the principles of aspesis to maintain integrity of the sterile field.
• 7. Participates in the quality improvement/quality assurance process at the unit level.
• 8. Communicates effectively
• 9. Parallel Processing in collaboration with circulating nurse/team staff to achieve and maintain turnover goals and on-time starts.
• 10. Actively participates in performing the essential components of the WHO Checklist, hand hygiene, and other department safety and quality initiatives.
• 11. Must be able to take assignment of “on-call” for specified nights, weekends and holidays.
• 12. Handles specimens according to policy and procedure

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program.
• Licensure, Certification, Registration:Certification Preferred. New Hires must obtain certification within one month of hire.
• Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
• Experience: Greater than one year of experience.
• Pay Range: $36.23 - $53.83

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
