Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist I to join the operating room team in a fast-paced setting. The role supports the Circulating nurse by preparing instruments and supplies and passes them to the surgeon at the sterile field.

The position emphasizes asepsis, teamwork, and active participation in quality improvement initiatives. New graduates are welcome; certification within one year is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program.
• Certification preferred; must obtain certification within one year of hire.
• Experience: New graduate ST to one year of experience.
• Demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.

Responsibilities

• Assists and collaborates with the Circulating nurse to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment and supplies.
• Primary role is as a ST, passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon at the sterile field.
• Anticipates needs of surgical team during the procedure and provides them with proper instruments, equipment, supplies to meet these needs.
• Incorporates asepsis principles to maintain the sterile field.
• Participates in the quality improvement/quality assurance process at the unit level.
• Communicates effectively and helps achieve turnover goals and on-time starts.
• Participates in the WHO checklist, hand hygiene, and other safety initiatives.
• Must be able to take on-call assignments for nights, weekends and holidays.

They will precept other staff and students. Surgical Technologist 1 functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Circulating Nurse.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

• Collaborates with the Circulating nurse to insure the accuracy of all sponge, sharps and instrument counts according to established policies and procedures.
• Responsible for application of the principles of aspesis to maintain integrity of the sterile field.
• Participates in the quality improvement/quality assurance process at the unit level.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Certification Preferred. Must obtain certification within one year of hire.

Pay Range

$34.50 - $51.27

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
