The Position

The Organ Surgical Coordinator (OSC) is responsible for maximizing donation through collaboration with transplant surgeons to ensure optimal outcomes for donor families and recipients. The OSC acts as the surgical technologist during organ procurement and cardiac catheterization cases, ensuring aseptic technique, passing instrumentation, and assisting the surgeon as necessary. The OSC is also responsible for the proper flushing, packaging, and labeling of organs after recovery.

What You’ll Do

Operating Room Support
  • Function primarily as a Surgical Technologist, preparing the operating room, passing instrumentation, and assisting transplant surgeons to optimize organ and tissue donation.
  • Serve as first assist to Cardiologist during cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Responsible for the setup and operation of the cardiac cath laboratory equipment, sterile field, and medication as directed by the Cardiologist.
  • Perform surgical dissection of kidneys including cleaning fat and obtaining wedge biopsies when appropriate.
  • Understand and communicate anatomy and anatomical markers including identifying, measuring, and describing kidney anatomy.
  • Utilize and troubleshoot technical equipment in the Operating Room.
  • Package and label organ specimens and typing materials in accordance with Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) Policies.
  • Administer and monitor various time-sensitive preservation solutions according to organ requirements.
  • Effectively utilize preservation technologies to optimize organs for transplantation.
Long Distance Line Management
  • Respond to transplant centers communication regarding an accepted import organ.
  • Coordinate all transportation logistics including air and ground transportation.
  • Communicate logistics to both the Organ Recovery Coordinator (ORC) assigned to the case, and the coordinator at the accepting transplant center.
  • Conduct detailed shift report with oncoming staff to ensure continuity of import organ handling.

Schedule Options: Weekday Nights (variable Monday-Thursday) 3 – 12 hour shifts per week (7:00p-7:00a)

What You’ll Bring

  • 2 years job experience as scrub technologist on a general team or Thoracic team
