Job summary

Cook County Health at Stroger Hospital is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to assist in the operating room, maintaining sterile technique and supporting the surgical team throughout preoperative and intraoperative duties. The CST ensures instrument readiness, accurate counts, and patient safety during procedures.

Minimum qualifications include approved surgical technology training, Illinois CST certification, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved Operating Room Technician/Surgical Technician program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist in Illinois through NBSTA or NCCT (must provide proof).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs preoperative duties: scrubbing, gathering and opening supplies, setting up sterile field, counts, draping, and time-out verification.
• Intraoperative duties: passes instruments, anticipates surgeon needs, passes medications and supplies, maintains sterile technique, assists with room turnover and prep for next case.
