Job summary

UnityPoint Health-Meriter is seeking a Surgical Technologist to prepare and maintain the operating room, support inpatient preparation, and deploy sterile techniques throughout procedures to ensure a sterile and safe surgical environment. The role supports infection control and safety guidelines while assisting during surgery with the perioperative team.

Responsibilities include handling specimens, anticipating surgeon needs, and contributing to continuous learning.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military/medical certification or LPN.
  • BLS Basic Life Support certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy sterile techniques throughout the procedure and support the surgical team.
  • Anticipate surgeons' needs, handle specimens, and assist during surgery under supervision.

Job description

Shift:

0500, 0700, 0930, 1000, 1130 and 3PM start times. Weekend/weeknight/holiday call rotation.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operating room, supporting inpatient preparation, and deploying sterile techniques throughout the procedure to ensure a sterile and safesurgical environment. The role works as an integral part of the surgical team, anticipating the surgeon's needs,handling specimens, and assisting during surgery under the supervision of surgeons and perioperative teammembers. The role participates in continuous learning, supports infection control protocols, and ensuresadherence to safety guidelines to improve patient outcomes and team efficiency.

Education:
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
  • Graduate from an accredited education program for Surgical Technology, OR graduate from an appropriate training program in the US Armed Forces OR Medical Certification OR LPN
License/Certifications:
  • Certified in Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter
  • BLS Basic Life Support (BLS)
Experience:
  • Previous surgical technologist or equivalent experience preferred
