Job summary

UCLA Health and David Geffen School of Medicine is seeking a surgical technologist to assist the surgeon in the operating room. The role involves anticipating needs under the supervision of the RN circulating nurse, and applying training to ensure sterile technique and patient safety across age groups.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an accredited surgical technologist program, CST certification, and active board registration.

Qualifications

• Completed accredited surgical technologist training program with CST credential.
• Board registration required; Military service training or prior CST practice may qualify under 54.1-2956.12 (note to be registered by Dec 31, 2021).

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon as the surgical technologist in the operating room.
• Assess needs and anticipate equipment and supplies with knowledge and experience.
• Provide care appropriate to the patient’s age as it relates to the surgical technologist role.
• Follow department policies and procedures in all tasks.

Description

Performs the function of a surgical technologist assisting the surgeon, assessing needs as they arise and anticipating needs through knowledge and experience. Works under the supervision of the RN circulating nurse. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the operating room over the life span. Must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs as it relates to the surgical technologist role. Must be able to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program and holds a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor, or has completed a training program for surgical technology during a person’s service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States or has practiced as a surgical technologist at any time in the six months prior to July 1, 2021, provided they requester with the Board by December 31st, 2021 54.1-2956.12.
