Northwell Health is seeking a Surgical Technician in Sharon, CT. Responsibilities include assisting in surgical services and maintaining a safe environment in the operating room. Candidates must have a High School diploma, surgical technician certification, and preferably one year of experience in an operating room.

Additional qualifications include BLS certification and a basic understanding of anatomy and medical terminology. A $20,000 sign-on bonus is offered for eligible candidates.

Summary

Assumes responsibility and accountability for functioning as the scrub nurse in assisting with the nursing care activities and surgical services provided to a specific group of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients, consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the Nursing Department and Hospital Administration. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to the age group of the patient served on the nursing unit or by the patient care department. This role also assists with nursing care activities in the surgical services environment, coordinating activities directed at assisting the surgical team in the implementation of care. Population served is based on the scope of services in the department.

Essential Responsibilities

• Collects and utilizes available data necessary for the proper preparation of the surgical suite.
• Performs proper sponge, sharps and instrument counts according to policy and procedure.
• Maintains a safe surgical environment, assuring overall cleanliness of the surgical suite, proper placement of supplies to ensure a safe traffic pattern, and verifies sterile processing through validation of integrity of sterile packaging.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and provides safe patient care through clear communication and collegial working relationships.
• Demonstrates knowledge of current trends and practices in the healthcare field, utilizing available educational materials and professional development opportunities.
• Utilizes materials and equipment in a safe, therapeutic and cost-effective manner, consistently checking all equipment for working order and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Participates and complies with the results of quality assurance audits and findings.
• Consistently demonstrates an application of surgical technologist knowledge to perform assigned functions.
• Maintains and models REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
• Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education & Experience Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent experience.
• PREFER: One (1) year of operating room and surgical technician experience.

• Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Outlook).

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements

• Surgical Technician Certification through an accredited educational institution.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
