Position Title

Surgical Technologist - Operating Room - Main Campus, Full-Time Days - Full Time Bell Hospital

Position Summary / Career Interest

Join the University of Kansas Operating Room team as a Surgical Technologist. The University of Kansas Health System handles some of the most complex surgical cases in the region. Our highly specialized surgeons perform approximately 100 procedures daily across various surgical specialties, including Orthopedics, Trauma, Plastics and Reconstructive, Burns, Dental, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Urology, General and Bariatrics, Vascular, Pulmonary, and Transplants.

Open positions start at 6:30am or 10:30am, with 8, 10, and 12-hour shift options available. Some call is included.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures under the guidance of the Registered Nurse and Nurse Manager.
  • Understand the surgical procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
  • Ensure quality patient care during surgery and maintain constant vigilance of the sterile field.

  • Recognize group dynamics and adapt communication styles accordingly.
  • Incorporate feedback from other teams into service and work processes.

  • Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies as required by the department.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Certificate or Associate’s Surgical Tech degree OR 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in lieu of the degree.
Required Licensure and Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
