Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD, is hiring a Surgical Technologist to assist in the operative patient care before, during and after surgery. The role includes scrub and circulating duties, maintaining asepsis and supporting infection control.

Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required, with 3 years OR experience preferred. Current Surgical Technologist and BLS certifications are preferred. Shift is Monday–Friday with on-call, weekends and holidays rotation.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a Surgical Technologist program from an accredited school of allied health services required.
• Three years continuous experience in an operating room preferred.
• Current Surgical Technologist certification preferred. Current BLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist professional staff in providing care for the operative patient before, during and after surgery.
• Perform scrub and circulating duties in the operating room and support sterile technique.
• Maintain asepsis, infection control and medical ethics on the surgical field.
• Train newly assigned personnel.
• Under the direction of the Laboratory, assist with patient specimen testing, quality control and equipment maintenance.

This position requires thorough surgical knowledge and expertise to insure proper instrumentation and supplies are available on the surgical field and/or in the operating room where the procedure is to be performed. This position helps the sterile operative team, performs scrub and circulating duties in the operating room, performs routine and specialized housekeeping activities, and applies principles of asepsis, infection control and medical ethics. This position will also be responsible for training newly assigned personnel. Patient safety and confidentiality are maintained at all times. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.Work Schedule:M-F Ten-hour shifts- 6:30 -5:00 with On Call, Weekend and Holiday rotation.Education/Experience:Graduation from a Surgical Technologist program from an accredited school of allied health services required.
