Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, part of Mass General Brigham, is seeking a Per Diem Surgical Technologist for the Longwood satellite campus (800 Huntington Ave). The position emphasizes on-site day shifts with opportunities to gain clinical knowledge and advance in a collaborative, high-performance perioperative team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• CST NBSTSA certification preferred.
• 2–3 years of surgical technologist experience in acute care required.
• 4+ years with committee/leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons, nurses and the surgical team in various procedures.
• Prepare the operating room for surgery and set up sterile supplies and equipment.
• Transport patients and assist with positioning for procedures.
• Pass instruments and supplies to the team during surgery.
• Maintain sterile technique and proper sterilization of instruments and supplies.
• Document surgical procedures, counts and equipment used.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses and anesthesiologists throughout cases.
• Prepare the surgical site with sterile drapes and solutions.
• Assist in managing drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.

A Surgical Technologist is responsible for providing intraoperative care to surgical patients. Available Shifts/Locations: We are currently hiring for our Longwood satellite campus (800 Huntington Ave) –Per Diem Role

• Responsible for assisting surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in various surgical procedures and playing a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the operating room
• Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
• Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.
• Transport patients to the operating room, help with positioning on the surgical table, and ensure their safety and comfort during the procedure.
• Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures.
• Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments used.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
• Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions.
• Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.

Licenses and Credentials

Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) - preferred

Work Experience

Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting – 2-3 years - required

Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience – 3-5 years -preferred

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room
• Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies
• Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required
