Fairview Health Services in Burnsville, MN is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the Delivery Room. You will prepare the OR, pass instruments to surgeons, and maintain sterile technique under RN guidance, supporting a fast-paced surgical team.

The role is 0.6 FTE with 12-hour rotating day/night shifts and variable weekends; it covers LOAs, vacations, and other relief needs. This position emphasizes teamwork, safety, and efficient operating room flow.

Qualifications

• Must have Surgical Technologist training or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required by hire date.
• Eligible for MN LPN Surgical Assistant or Military Surgical Assistant pathways.

Responsibilities

• Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
• Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Counting sponges, sharps, and instruments as required.
• Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
• Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipating the surgeon’s needs and responding to emergencies.

Job description

Job Overview

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist in the Delivery Room at our Fairview Ridges Hospital located in Burnsville, MN.

As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.

Schedule

This position will be working 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks). Rotating day/night 12 hour shifts with variable weekends. No set pattern for this position as it will be a relief position to help cover LOAs, vacations etc.

About our OR at Ridges

• Our 150-bed community-based hospital currently has 11 OR Rooms, averaging over 7,500 cases a year.
• Our OR specializes in areas including: Spine, Ortho, OB-GYN, General, ENT, Plastic, Urology, and Da Vinci.
• Our call response time is 30 minutes and it is a weekend
• Increased flexibility! Limited Call schedule (1 out of 6 weekends)

Responsibilities

Required Qualifications

• Complete one of the following by hire date:
  • Military Surgical Assistant; OR
  • LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
  • Surgical Technologist training
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
• 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience

Other Required Skills

• Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.
