Townsen Memorial Surgery Center is hiring for a PRN Certified Surgical Tech to join our Katy, TX location.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician during all cases. After each case, the technologist will standby for sterile processing duties, including decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and storage, following department policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Works with specialty surgical instrumentation, troubleshoots problems, and repairs.
  2. Communicates information received from various sources accurately and effectively.
  3. Reviews instrumentation needs, manages inventory, and stocks operating par levels for stored instrumentation and emergency carts.
  4. Follows manufacturer instructions for sorting, disassembling, decontaminating, rinsing, disinfecting, and inspecting instruments and equipment.
  5. Uses count sheets to assemble, protect, wrap, containerize, peel pack, and label instruments correctly.
  6. Prepares carts from pick lists and delivers instrumentation to the operating room as needed.
  7. Conducts rounds in operating rooms to confirm instrumentation needs are met.
  8. Facilitates room turnovers, handles garbage, linen, and biohazardous materials properly.
  9. Adheres to sterilization methods per manufacturer recommendations and documents sterilization loads and biological tests.
  10. Records utilization of instrumentation tracking systems.
  11. Ensures sterile products are stored correctly and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
  12. Prepares instrumentation for sterilization and organizes workflow efficiently.
  13. Participates in staff development and training, providing guidance as needed.
  14. Maintains patient confidentiality and safety standards.
  15. Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  16. Keeps professional certifications current and performs additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Strong sterile technique skills related to operating room procedures.
  • Proficiency in surgical technology and operating equipment.
  • Leadership skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Formal surgical technology education.
  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited program or military training.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Completion of any additional educational requirements as assigned.
  • Compliance with annual health requirements, including PPD testing.
