Job summary

St. John Medical Center in Ohio is seeking a Surgical Technologist Intern to support operative teams in the St. John OR.

This internship provides hands-on exposure to sterile technique, instrumentation, and perioperative care as you prepare for a career in surgical technology. You will learn under supervision, perform primary scrub duties in procedures where competency is demonstrated, assist with technical tasks, ensure instruments and supplies are ready, and maintain PHI and safety standards

Qualifications

Enrollment in final year of a Surgical Technologist program is required.
Completion of a bachelor’s degree with current enrollment in an accredited medical school is required.
Thorough knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, suture and surgical procedures is required.
Good communication skills are essential.
Ability to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs and prescribed medical therapies (Required proficiency)

Responsibilities

Provide patient care in the primary scrub position in procedures where competency has been demonstrated.
Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.
Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition.
Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field medication.
Perform other duties which support the operative team, including following patient care hand-off protocol.
Involved in learning and self-improvement.
Utilize a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed therapies

Description

A Brief Overview

Surgical Technologist Intern supports operative teams by assisting with procedures where competency has been demonstrated.

What You Will Do

Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain regain, and sustain optimal health status. Essential Duties include:
Provide patient care/function in primary scrub position in procedures that competency has been demonstrated.
Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.
Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition.
Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field medication.
Perform other duties which support the operative team, includes following patient care hand-off protocol.
Involved in learning and self-improvement.
Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies.

Additional Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
