Job summary

University Hospitals seeks a Surgical Technologist Intern to support our Mather Operating Room team within UH Cleveland Medical Center’s Level 1 Trauma Center. The 26-room OR performs a wide range of complex procedures around the clock.

As an intern, you will assist with operative procedures, help prepare instruments and supplies, and learn how to maintain PHI and adhere to UH policies while supporting the surgical team.

Qualifications

• Provides safe, efficient age-specific nursing care to patients and families.
• Assists with procedures in the primary scrub position when competency demonstrated.
• Ensures instruments and supplies are ready and functional.
• Assists with labeled medications on the sterile field.
• Supports the operative team and patient hand-off procedures.
• Engages in learning and self-improvement.
• Uses technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed therapies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with policies and standards.
• Abides by PHI requirements and training.

A Brief Overview

Surgical Technologist Intern supports operative teams by assisting with procedures where competency has been demonstrated.

What You Will Do

• Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain regain, and sustain optimal health status. Essential Duties include:
• Provide patient care/function in primary scrub position in procedures that competency has been demonstrated.
• Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.
• Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition.
• Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field medication.
• Perform other duties which support the operative team, includes following patient care hand-off protocol.
• Involved in learning and self-improvement.
• Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies.

• Complies with all policies and standards.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
