Job summary

University Hospitals in Cleveland is seeking a Surgical Technologist Intern for the MOSC OR. You will assist with procedures in a busy six-room operating suite, supporting the operative team under supervision.

Enrollment in final year of a surgical technologist program is required; candidates should have knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, suture handling, and strong communication. Will learn PHI handling and work within a 24/7 trauma center environment.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, suture and surgical procedures.
• Good communication skills are essential.
• Ability to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs.

Responsibilities

• Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain regain, and sustain optimal health status.
• Provide patient care/function in primary scrub position in procedures that competency has been demonstrated.
• Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.
• Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition.
• Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field medication.
• Perform other duties which support the operative team, includes following patient care hand-off protocol.
• Involved in learning and self-improvement.
• Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies.

We're hiring for the MOSC Operative Services!

Our 6-room MOSC OR is part of UH Cleveland Medical Center’s Level 1 Trauma Center, providing 24/7 sight-saving care for eye traumas as well as general, bariatric, urology, gynecology, podiatry, pain, breast, and colorectal surgical services.

Surgical Technologist Intern supports operative teams by assisting with procedures where competency has been demonstrated.

What You Will Do

• Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain regain, and sustain optimal health status. Essential Duties include:
• Provide patient care/function in primary scrub position in procedures that competency has been demonstrated.
• Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education
