MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA seeks a Surgical Tech to prepare the operating room for all specialties, instrument cases, and care for patients under the surgeon and circulating nurse. The position is full-time, day shift, with a $10,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a surgical technologist program or LPN with surgical experience.
• Certification as a surgical technologist required.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Surgical Tech.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Mandatory reporting training per Iowa guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assists the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care.
• Provides care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards, physician preference cards, and the AORN Standards of Care and Practice.
• Assists in setting up rooms.
• Secures safe transport of the patient if needed.
• Confirms correctness of the surgical site, prepares the pre-operative site, instruments the case, manages the sterile field and specimens, and turns the room around under the supervision of the circulating nurse.
• Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources.
• Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager.
• Identifies accurate changes on surgeons' preference cards.
• Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies during the case and in the department.
• Develops and maintains knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties.
