Overview

This position is sign-on bonus eligible! Experienced Full Time Surgical Technologists are eligible for a sign-on bonus with a one-year commitment. New Graduate and Part Time Surgical Technologists are eligible for sign-on bonus with a one-year commitment.

Job Summary:

Applies advanced surgical technology skills to assist in providing patient care in the surgical suite while maintaining a safe work environment and performing all related job responsibilities. Ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly vigilant for the maintenance of the sterile field.

Essential Functions:

  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
  • Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior to, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, and equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens; assists with room turnover.
  • Performs duties according to department policy and procedures.
  • Monitors surgical supplies for sterility prior to use, ensures supplies are used judiciously, and charges are documented/submitted accurately.
  • Monitors and documents sterilization activities for completion.
  • Attends in-services and staff meetings; demonstrates knowledge of current department issues and participates in Performance Improvement processes.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal development goals.
  • Assists in developing policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Serves as a preceptor and clinical resource to others.
  • Assumes responsibility for individual clinical projects as required.

Physical Requirements:

Works with occasional intermittent noise and exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals. Requires communication and writing skills. Physical effort includes walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, squatting, or kneeling. May require lengthy periods of standing. Frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling is necessary. Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds. Uses both hands and fingers for gripping, speed, and precision during equipment operation and patient movement. Vision and hearing for distances up to 20 feet are required, along with depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to work long or irregular hours, rotating shifts, and be near moving equipment, with exposure to temperature changes, humidity, and Blood Borne Pathogens.

Education, Training, and Experience:

Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or successful completion of military training as a Surgical Technologist or Operating Room Specialist. A minimum of 5 years of operating room experience in a surgical technologist role is required. Current certification is required. Meets all ST III qualifications of the Surgical Tech Ladder.
