Overview

Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist (ST) is an integral component of the surgery team, providing expertise as a scrub nurse. The ST works closely with the Registered Nurse to plan and provide care to the operative patient and to meet the needs of the surgeon. The ST provides appropriate patient care according to the patient's age, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with Administrative Policy is essential.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience, current graduate student of an accredited program, or near completion of such a program.
  • High School/GED or 2 years of equivalent work experience. Surgical Techs who began working after 1997 must be graduates of an accredited Surgical Technology program or have completed a Surgical Tech Certification Program.
  • CPR certification (AHA) is required.
  • Hires after 09/09/2018 must have a National Surgical Tech Certification or a minimum of 5 years of related field experience.
  • Ability to scrub, set up, and maintain a sterile field, and perform duties of a Surgical Technologist across all surgery specialties.

Please note that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing requirement is fulfilled through internal resources; external RQI providers are not accepted for compliance.
